   WHAT IS AIKIDO

Aikido is a modern martial art based on

traditional styles. It was created by

   Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969, referred

to as O-Sensei, meaning "great teacher").

   After a transformative spiritual experience,

O'Sensei dedicated his art to Universal

   Peace. The physical appearance and

   philosphical underpinnings of Aikido

evoke the movement of nature and the

unity of mankind. Aikidoka (those who

practice the art) train to develop internal

self-control in order to resolve conflict

in the outer world. Aikido can be practiced

at many levels and intensities suitable to

   students of all ages.
